Victims of rape and domestic violence have been silenced for decades. It's a harsh reality that many choose to ignore, but, we still do live in a rape culture. In society young women and men are perceived as objects for perpetrators of sexual abuse, to use as they please. Why? The simple answer is because sex sells. The Idea that sexual abuse and domestic violence symbolizes power and masculinity is what keeps our culture going. Since we feed into the media, we are subconsciously allowing rape myths to exist. By watch popular shows on television make horrific statements about rape and abuse to looking at ads in a magazines we are reinforcing the same exact thing that we are trying to get rid of. If we want the tragedies to end it has to be done through the media.
