Why is rape so common? Its because we allow it. Currently in our society rape has become a joke. From popular television shows to ads in magizines we can see clearly how strong and masculine men assert their dominance over frail and helpless women. Unfortunately we live in a society following the trend of "Rape Culture." So what is Rape Culture? Becky Lockwood, associate director of the Center for Women and Community in Amherst, Mass., says, "Rape culture is anything that supports a culture where people think that it is okay to use sexual violence to get what they want; and, it's usually not about sex. ... It's usually about power."
When looking through ads I discovered a pattern. Majority of the ads portraying a form of rape or sexual abuse were used for products that a male would typically use, such as Calvin Klein jeans or cars made by Ford. These ads give men a sense of power and encourages then to buy the product.
So where are the ads where men are being forced to have sex, or have suffered from domestic violence? I could not find a single ad where the male was a victim of sexual assult or domestic violence. Men are victims too however they are much less likely to speak out about the manner.

Dolce and Gabbana
"The advertisement showing a woman pinned to the ground by the wrists by a bare-chested man, with other men in the background looking on", has been banned since yesterday, the Advertising Self-Discipline Institute (IAP) said.
The body said the ad "offended the dignity of the woman, in the sense that the feminine figure is shown in a degrading manner. The woman has an alienated expression, with an absent look".

Ford
Car manufacturer Ford has been accused of undermining attempts to tackle violence against women in India with an advert showing three gagged and bound ladies in the back of a car. The ad also appears to show a grinning Silvio Berlusconi, notorious for his "bunga bunga" sex parties, in the driver's seat of the Figo.
